The Senior Scientist, Tissue and Material Sciences will manage and direct a team of Ph.D. Scientists/ Engineers and Research Professionals with the charter of designing, evaluating and studying the interaction of implantable device materials with cells and tissues.  Individual will have oversight of laboratory functions, experimental design and execution of laboratory studies within this group.  Individual will also have responsibility for managing outside contractors performing in vitro and in vivo studies relating to the interaction and tissue response to implantable materials and the functionality of material surfaces.  This group will be involved in developing, qualifying and implementing new analytical technology, imaging systems, and new microscopy technology to support the work on tissue interactions with materials. This individual will also have responsibility for coordinating multidisciplinary research projects, managing project schedules and meeting all safety and quality requirements for this research area. This individual will have responsibility for managing personnel within their group including hiring and maintaining personnel, assuring that all necessary training for this group are met, and managing the budget for the group.

 

Desired Skills & Experience

  • PH.D degree in Biomedical Engineering, Material Sciences or Biologics with at least 3 years of specific experience with implantable materials and a focus on tissue responses to materials or an MS degree with at least 5 years of similar research experience.
  • Demonstrated lab and technical personnel management experience required.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Experience effectively managing outside contractors preferred.
  • 5 or more years of industry experience in Research or Development preferred.
  • Experience with animal models required.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in material tissue interaction and basic knowledge of the science involved
