Job Focus

Bioconjugation expert and a key player in the Biophysics & Bioanalytics group responsible for the exploratory bioconjugation efforts within GBT. The qualified candidate would be expected to work closely with the head of Biophysics and Bioanalytics and key partner lines (i.e. PharmSci) to evaluate and implement cutting edge protein conjugation technologies with the goal of 1) enhancing PK and/or other pharmaceutical properties of candidate molecules; 2) novel bifunctional molecules via chemical conjugation.

Responsibilities

Responsible for setting up the exploratory bioconjugation platforms in the group.

Provide scientific expertise for developing and applying cutting edge bioconjugation methods to generate novel biotherapeutics with improved in vivo and in vitro properties.

Design and implement appropriate modification approaches such as PEGylation, Acylation, Fc/HSA fusions, and other Biopolymer based conjugations on various candidate molecules such as peptides, native proteins, mAbs, and mAb fragments. Carry out detailed analytical and biophysical characterizations on these conjugates. This could be done in close collaboration with other members in the group and with partner line groups. Work independently towards defined objectives conducting several complex experiments, some in parallel, and offering insight into future experiments with the goal to identify new drug formats and lead compounds representing novel Biotherapeutics.

 

Desired Skills & Experience

A PhD in Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Biosynthetic Chemistry, or other relateddisciplines with a minimal of 1-4 years of successful postdoctoral or industrialexperience.

At least 3 years of hands on experience in protein or peptide conjugation.

Demonstrate a high level of initiative in performing experiments, particularly whenproblems are encountered which require troubleshooting.

Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and strong interpersonal andcommunication skills is required.

Experience in Biotherapeutic drug development would be a strong plus.Technical Skill RequirementsExtensive experience in a wide range of protein conjugation technologies and linkerchemistry.

Hands on experience in the design and optimization of various bioconjugation reactions.

Hands on experience in purification and characterization of bioconjugates, using methodssuch as HPLC and multidimensional chromatography, SDS-PAGE, SEC-MALs, MassSpec, and other analytical approaches.

A thorough knowledge of protein biochemistry and biosynthetic chemistry.

A provenrecord of external publications and presentations in the field of bioconjugation.
