The Hide Lab at the Harvard School of Public Heath performs research on stem cells and proliferation and seeks a key member of a team working to understand the process by which stem cells utilize pathways that become involved in proliferation and cancers. Working closely with the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, you will help provide tools and data manipulation that enables the stem cell community to understand the processes of cancer. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic bioinformatics software engineer to participate at all levels in the development of an integrated data management and analysis system for stem cell research. The candidate will be keen to develop their ideas in an environment where experience and delivery are regarded highly.

Responsibilities

Work closely with the project manager and scientific end-users to create and evaluate requirements to support the delivery of an integrated stem cell data management and analysis system

Design, engineer and deploy custom and available open source application solutions for the stem cell data management and analysis system

Implement user access controls and data security measures where appropriate

Create and maintain systems level documentation of processes, databases, applications as required

Assist Hide Lab post-docs in the development of creative data visualization solutions and other analysis tasks as needed

Provide grant and manuscript level write ups of software solutions and analysis methods

Perform other duties relevant to data management and analysis for the Lab as assigned

Basic Qualifications

Bioinformatics related degree or B.S. degree with 4 years related experience

Demonstrated experience in web application development and the adaptation and integration of heterogeneous biological software solutions

Expert knowledge of at least one programming or scripting language; C++, Java, Python, Perl

Experience with bioinformatics tools and data repositories

Ability to multitask and accommodate shifting priorities

Additional Qualifications

M.S. degree in Computer Science, Biology, Bioinformatics

Strong interest in the development of solutions for biological applications

Experience modeling, building and warehousing biological data management systems using MySQL or PostgreSQL

Familiarity with data analysis concepts and knowledge of R
