Research Project Funding Guidelines
iAMscientist’s platform supports scientific research projects. The guidelines below articulate our mission. Please note that any project that violates these guidelines can be declined or removed. Please contact us if you have any questions.
1. Projects.
iAMscientist is for the funding of scientific research projects – ex. Novel discovery, Test a hypothesis, Develop a new procedure, Demonstrate a new application, theoretical framework construction or other research projects. A project may be a component of a much larger research effort or application. Each project should have clearly defined goals and expectations.
2. Projects to further science.
iAMscientist can be used to fund projects in any field of Science, Engineering, Medicine or Mathematics.
3. No charity or cause funding.
Examples of prohibited use include raising money for the Red Cross, funding an awareness campaign, funding a scholarship, or donating a portion of funds raised on iAMscientist to a charity or cause.
4. No "fund my life" projects.
Examples include projects to pay tuition or bills, go on vacation, or buy a new camera.
5. Results, not financial incentives.
The iAMscientist economy is based on the delivery of results based on a set of goals identified by the researcher. It is not necessary for the result to be either positive or negative. Since one’s ability to fund future grants is based upon reputation, it is important to describe the progress that has been accomplished since the funding of the campaign. Offering financial incentives, such as ownership in Intellectual Property, products or financial returns (for example, a share of profits), or repayment (loans) is prohibited.
6. Rewards.
Think of rewards as a chance to thank your donors and tell them more about the project they’re participating in funding. The best rewards are those that foster communication or education. Offering financial incentives or financial returns (for example, a share of profits), or repayment (loans) is prohibited. However, potential product outcomes of the project are allowed.
